The train at least can get 20-30 people on and off at once so it actually works. Reason being, it takes forever for people to unload and load because it won't let any guests in the entry gate until EVERYONE has left the exit gate, and with other transport rides, this process happens every car which is a max of like 8-10 people. Trains are the only one that I have found to be effective at actually moving large groups of people around.
All the others seem to suck really badly because of the load/unload times. I've also experimented with a 'subway' system and seems like it would work fine, though I didn't end up implementing it on a mass scale as my above-ground trains were effective enough (I have two train lines circulating opposite directions around my park).
I usually have my transport rides run mostly-elevated to get over paths and stuff. Not really, you need to tunnel or bridge either the path or the tracks. After transport, I've got big crowds dispersed throughout. Without transport, a few people would make it to the back but it would be a trickle even with high-attractiveness animals.
This is with a ~8000-9000 guest zoo with 25+ habitats. I've seen a noticeable difference in number of guests visiting my farther back habitats after putting a train in.
